October 2010 entires
Sunday 31 October 2010
BOO!
Did we scare you? No?
Didn’t think so. We’re more Casper the Friendly Ghost than Nightmare on Elm Street over here!
We’ve
had a great time this Halloween. We’ve
been pumpkin carving, dressing up as witches, vampires and ghosts and had
friends over for a spooky tea. We’ve
been apple bobbing, trying to grab sweets from the top of flour mountains using
our mouths (and getting covered in flour in the process), telling scary stories
and generally having a great time.
After
the sugar rush of today, we’re planning on turning the glut of pumpkins we have
into some tasty pumpkin
soup – ideal as a warming lunch on these cold days. Yum!
Hope you’ve had a great Halloween. Keep sending in your spooky photos, we always
love receiving them. You can also post
them to our Facebook page!

Saturday 23 October 2010Yippee! It’s
half term. No school runs. No uniforms.
No packed lunches. Lie-ins! OK, if you’ve managed to figure out the last one
please let us know – ours have been up since the crack of dawn and don’t quite
understand the concept of ‘please let mummy sleep just a little longer’!
So, what have you planned for the week ahead? We’re
hoping to have a jam packed week of fun activities. But we’re kicking off the week with a very
civilised cup of coffee in our local arts centre. Aberystwyth Arts Centre is
the largest arts centre of its kind in Wales and we love the fact that it’s on
our doorstep. Today is the launch of
their Christmas fair (yes, we know it’s only October, but come on, Christmas
will be here in 62 days)!
This year, the Christmas fair is better than
ever. There’s a whole host of local and
Welsh suppliers there from organic honey, funky photographs, crafty presents
and some rather delightful organic childrenswear – we have a stall! We also have some very special additions to
our collection at the fair which include our new organic cotton birdprint
babrygro, organic vest and hat in baby blue.
Another addition is our brown and green velour babygro (also organic
cotton and recycled fabric) – imagine a mini version of one of our jumpsuits
and you won’t be far off. They do come
with a health warning – they’re so cute they’ll make you very broody!
So, if you’re in the vicinity, or even fancy a
daytrip over to West Wales, call over to the Arts Centre for coffee and a cake you
won’t be disappointed with the cake or clothes selection, we promise!
PS Don’t worry if you can’t make it over here just
yet, the fair goes on until Christmas and the babygros will be available online
before too long!

Tuesday 19 October 2010 We just had to share this brillant review of our organic bird print T shirt. It truly made our day. Thanks Marius!
“I’d chosen a In the Night Garden top that my mum had bought my daughter for her to wear today. She refused point blank saying ‘quack quack’. I thought she’d lost the plot until she went and pulled ...out your birdprint top and started to put it on. She never turns down the opportunity to wear Night Garden clothing! You’re bigger and better than my daughter’s favourite TV programme!”

Thursday 14 October 2010There’s something
special about the Rheged Centre in Cumbria. An award winning day out,
it’s also Europe’s largest grass covered building. Designed to resemble a
Lakeland hill, the centre is home to 10 shops, outdoor and indoor play areas,
craft workshops, a conference centre, a 3D digital cinema and the all
important cafe.
The shops at Rheged
take pride in stocking things that are a little bit different and offer a
choice of products that aren’t found on many high streets. Their newly
refurbished children’s store has just become that little bit more special as
they’ve become one of our stockists. Rheged is also the first store to
receive delivery of our 2011 collection – a mix of rich red outfits and vibrant
red and navy stripes. The kids of Cumbria are looking mighty fine in
their trendy outfits.
So, the next time
you’re heading to the rolling hills of Cumbria, or if you’re lucky enough to
live there – pop in to the Rheged centre for a cuppa and some quality retail
therapy!

Tuesday 05 October 2010We’re
busy collecting conkers this week. We
spend ages scavenging through leaf litter under the huge Horse Chestnut trees
to find the spiky green balls. Minding
our fingers we carefully peel back the prickly shell to reveal the brown shiny
seed. It’s one of the great joys of autumn! We don’t know about you, but we also love
wandering through the woods, collecting bright orange leaves to make collages
and running through the puddles of leaves everywhere. When the rain stays away, it’s a great time
to be outside don’t you think?
So,
back to conkers. We’re out and about
searching for the biggest, fattest ones. We then line them up and select our
best ones ready for a conker battle. By
the way we’re not allowing any sneaky tactics involving vinegar dunking or nail
varnish to harden them! We’ve just been making a hole through the middle(ish)
and threading shoelaces through them before going for gold and taking it in
turns, walloping each other’s until someone wins! Great fun!
Go
on, send us your conker battle photos to news@pilipalachildrenswear.com
